Sara and Tom met through mutual friends and spent that whole first night realizing just how much they had in common. They bonded over their passion for how education could change lives and ultimately communities. Sara shared that she was excited to start editing students’ college essays through a community service project only to find out that Tom had his own organization that did that and more.
Three and a half years later, a relatively normal Saturday night started with dinner at Fogo de Chao using gift cards Sara’s sister had given the couple for Christmas. But before dinner, Tom asked if they could stop and walk around a neighborhood they hadn’t checked out yet. After a walk through Celestial Park, Sara was cold and started to head to the car. But before she made it there, Tom called her back to him. When he got down on one knee, Sara realized what was happening and was so overwhelmed she fell down while saying yes!
Sara studied petroleum engineering at Texas Tech, but now oversees the Academic Success Program in Dallas ISD high schools. Tom spent his undergrad career at Dartmouth before earning his law degree from Southern Methodist University. He helps Sara balance her many hats and also has his own practice, Urquidez Law Firm. The couple will wed at Christ the King Catholic Church on September 7 with a reception to follow at the Ritz-Carlton, Dallas.
