Both Emily and Brett attended the University of Texas at Austin, but didn’t get to know one another until after graduation. They officially clicked in 2011 at a New Year’s Eve wedding in Austin and dated long-distance for the next six months before Brett decided to move to Dallas to be with Emily. Two years later, the couple set out for a “belated Mother’s Day” dinner with Brett’s family. As they walked to the restaurant, he got down on one knee and asked Emily to be his wife then led her to a surprise brunch with their families to celebrate.
The couple planned a romantic, blush and white event with several special family touches. The bride wore the lace-trimmed veil that her mother walked down the aisle in 42 years before and she is the 38th person in Brett’s family to marry in a Luskey family ring. They even designed a groom’s cake to look just like Brett’s grandfather’s favorite cowboy boots.
