When Katy Fink attended a charity bachelor auction to support a participating friend, Rocky Cherry’s runway walk caught her eye (and the eyes of others—he got the highest bid!) Two years later, Katy and Rocky officially met through friends; Katy teased him about his memorable catwalk, and the two have been together ever since. One and a half years later, Rocky planned a surprise proposal under the guise of a birthday celebration for Katy. The couple headed to Vino 101, where they’d had their first date, then to Javier’s for dinner. As they walked to their table for two, Rocky kept leading her until they arrived to a room full of their friends. Katy still believed it was merely a birthday party, until Rocky stood to give a birthday speech that ended with a heartfelt proposal.
The couple chose an October ceremony date; Rocky looked up the weather statistics and found the chance of rain that day was slim to none. The weekend of the wedding, a record torrential downpour suddenly appeared, and several guests missed the bridal luncheon, rehearsal dinner, and the wedding itself. Katy panicked about cancellations and changes to venues, but her mom revealed that it had rained on the day of her wedding as well, also detouring most of their events. “My parents celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary five days before our wedding,” says Katy. “Rain on a wedding day, good luck? I think so!”
For their fall nuptials, the couple opted out of a traditional autumn palette and chose to go with what they liked best: a mix of bright colors and soft pastels. The Garden Gate created over-the-top floral arrangements that Katy loved, from table arrangements to the cascading blossoms on the cake. Of the décor, she says, “I wanted the room to glow with a chic feel with hints of rose gold and just the right amount of sparkle.” Katy and Rocky chose to serve mini Texas sheet cakes and pumpkin cake balls in lieu of a groom’s cake—a sweet finish to a fall Dallas wedding.
