You want to look and feel your best on your wedding day. Getting ready for your big day doesn’t just include picking out the perfect suit–it’s perfecting the total package. A pre-wedding beauty regimen is not just for the bride, either. Men are ready to embrace their own grooming routine to prep for the big, too.
Six months before:
Your wedding day isn’t the time to try the new cut you’ve been thinking about. Perfect your signature look, or make enhancements to your current style. Also be conscious of the theme of the wedding: if it’s more contemporary, it’s okay to go with a more modern hairstyle. If your wedding is more traditional, keep that in mind when deciding on your look.
Three months before:
Your wardrobe should be determined, now finalize your hairstyle. Make an appointment with your hairstylist to do a test run and answer any questions you may have.
Your groom’s party is sure to be a unique mix of guys – let their signature styles come through. Trust us, your pictures will be even better if you let your guys rock their signature haircut, beard, or bow tie. Coordinate a matching color scheme instead.
One month before:
Treat yourself! Go in for a facial. Facials soothe irritated skin and deep clean, leaving your skin healthier and more youthful. The results are “skin-changing.”
If you’re going for a stubble look on your wedding day, trial and error is the only way to assess your beard growth. Test the waters about a month before the wedding and take note of how long it takes for you to get to prime wedding day stubble.
Round up the guys and go together for cuts and shaves before the big day or before hitting the town for your bachelor party. Schedule shaves, haircuts, and facials or massages for your groom’s party to help them look and feel their best.
One week before:
If you are planning to get anything waxed (such as, your eyebrows, back, or chest), do this now. If your skin gets red or irritated, you want to make sure you have time for it to settle.
Ring pictures will definitely happen, so neat and clean fingernails are a must. Trim your nails and apply cuticle lotion, or let a pro do it for you. Get a hand grooming.
Five days before:
Get your final haircut. This gives you time to let the style settle and not look “fresh from the salon” while still being sharp. Ask your hairstylist for styling tips or product recommendations. This is especially important if you are doing your own hair. Make sure you leave the salon feeling confident on how to master your style for the big day.
The day before:
A straight razor shave gives the cleanest shave, so if you’re after a sharp, clean look for your wedding day, schedule an appointment with your barber. Or shave at home and make sure you use high quality products, so your skin looks and feels its best!
Sporting a beard? A neat, well-maintained beard looks outstanding. Shave your neck to just under the jaw line, shave the top of your beard along the cheek for sharp, defined lines, then use clippers or scissors to maintain a uniform length to the body of the beard. Finish with a beard softener or oil to combat frizz and lock in moisture.
Wedding day:
If you are styling your own hair, give yourself some extra time, just in case. Follow your stylist’s tips and re-create your style just as they did at the salon.
It’s tempting to go overboard with your cologne, but please don’t. One or two sprays is enough to keep you fresh all day, while eliminating the chance of being “that guy” and smelling too strong.
Bonus points: send your bride a gift, flowers, or a personal note to read while she’s getting ready. The little things mean the most. Oh, and don’t forget to have mints and lip balm handy.
