Thanks to Vatana Watters, president and CEO of Watters, for answering this week’s reader question.
I’d like to purchase a wedding dress that is not only trendy, but classic. What are some of the biggest fall trends that won’t look outdated in wedding photos in a few years?
My favorite current trend that will endure the test of time is the move towards sophistication. Brides are pulling inspiration from old world glamour with cinematic and literary influences like The Great Gatsby, Anna Karenina, and Downton Abbey. We are seeing wedding gowns in decadent fabrics, fitted bodices, ornate lace details, and more formal receptions. The Watters Kerry Gown (style 4096B) features a figure accentuating hand-placed chantilly and corded lace. When paired with the Watters veil Lyra, a hand-beaded crystal cathedral length cap veil, it’s the perfect look for a formal reception.
Another trend is the comeback of lace! This year we are seeing a lot of lace, from full-on lace dresses to just a touch here and there to accent details. A classic lace wedding gown will not go out of style. Our Watters Erin gown (style 4068B) hand-placed re-embroidered lace appliqué fit and flare dress is the perfect elegant gown.
Finally, the trend I’m most excited about is exquisite necklines–the alternative to the strapless gown. Dresses with illusion necklines, sheer backs, and sleeves that cover up the upper body but remain elegant and sexy. Watters Jacinda gown (style 4061B) hand-beaded bateau illusion neckline dress is the ideal marriage of sexy and elegance.
