Liberty and Oscar met while attending Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in 2001. They crossed paths in the hallways and many other times at school, but they shared their first conversation in functional piano class. As they got into their high school years, the pair shared more and more mutual friends and they started to hang out after school. Liberty knew that Oscar was the one for her for quite some time, but it took Oscar a little longer to come around. After he graduated in 2003, they stayed in touch and met up at parties. In 2006, Oscar “finally” decided to make it official and asked Liberty to be his girlfriend.
Oscar decided to take Liberty back to where it all began to ask her to be his wife. On October 24, 2014, he planned a date night of dinner at Tei-An followed by the opera. Liberty was running late, so they were a bit rushed at dinner. As they were walking towards the opera hall, Oscar stopped to listen to a street musician who was playing a Stevie Ray Vaughan song. Liberty was feeling nervous about making it to the opera on time, but she knew that it was one of his favorite songs, so she listened. The musician asked if they had any requests and Liberty told him no and that they needed to get to their seats. He insisted and started playing Bruno Mars’ song “Marry You.” Oscar got down on one knee and asked her in front of the Arts Magnet where they shared so many high school memories. They musician pulled a bouquet of flowers out of his guitar case and the couple went on their way to the show as future husband and wife.
Liberty attended the University of Texas at Arlington and graduated with a bachelor of fine arts in communications advertising with a minor in marketing and Spanish. She is an account manager at Jack Morton Worldwide. Oscar graduated from the University of North Texas with a bachelor of science in hospitality management. He works at G6 Hospitality as a market development manager. They will marry Saturday, October 10, 2015, at St. Monica Catholic Church with a reception to follow at Union Station.
