KellyAlexanderThanks to Kelly Alexander Photography for answering this week’s reader question:

I would love to come up with a few creative and “out of the box” ideas for my bridal portrait in addition the traditional shots. What are some ways to brainstorm for the photo session?

Today’s bride definitely has the license to be quirky and fun with their bridal portrait! Work closely with your photographer to find creative locations and poses that showcase your personality and interests.

Be imaginative in your venue selection a rustic barn, a train yard, bridge or rooftop. Mix opposites! Featuring a very traditional bridal pose in a very unconventional space can be unique.

Draw inspiration from your hobbies and things that are important to you. Think about what you like to do in your free time and how you can incorporate those ideas into your session.

If you love to read, find an old library or historic schoolhouse for your shoot! If you enjoy running, get a few shots where your brightly colored sneakers peek out from beneath your dress. Science enthusiasts, consider a
background that includes the big T-Rex skeleton at the museum – he definitely qualifies as a “something old,” right?

Most important, just make sure whatever theme you decide upon reflects your personal style and individuality. It will be those little details that shout to viewers, “It’s so you!” that help make the photos of your
wedding intimate and unique!
