Sydney and Alex had their first date at The Porch, where they bonded over their love for their dogs (hers, a mini-longhaired dachshund named Fritz and his, a golden retriever named Scout). The couple, with almost a foot and a half height difference, found common ground in their passion for college football, that both of their brothers are named Ted, and that their birthdays are only one day apart.
One and a half years later, Sydney, wearing her old sorority t-shirt and shorts, was running around the house, doing laundry and cleaning when Alex asked her to take a walk with Fritz and Scout. She told him that she needed a minute to finish folding the laundry and her morning coffee. He sat down next to her and asked her to turn off the TV. Slightly annoyed, she asked, “What do you want?” He responded by getting down on one knee and asking her to marry him. They spent an hour drinking mimosas and getting ready for the surprise brunch with their families Alex had planned. He also made arrangements for her best friend from Houston to be in town for the festive occasion.
Sydney graduated from Southern Methodist University and received degrees in corporate communications and public affairs and psychology. Alex graduated from University of South Carolina, where he studied business administration, human resources, and organizational leadership. He is now working on his master’s degree in human resources at University of Texas at Arlington. They will marry on April 25, 2015 at The Brooks at Weatherford, just outside Fort Worth.
