Thanks to Crystal Frasier, owner of Crystal Frasier Weddings, for answering this week’s reader question:
I am trying to choose between a maid and matron of honor. What is the difference?
The difference between a Maid of Honor and a Matron of Honor refers to your attendant’s marriage status. A married, divorced, or widowed woman would be called a Matron of Honor and an unmarried woman (never married) is a Maid of Honor. If you choose to have both in your wedding, they would be the two closest to you at the alter. The order is a matter of personal preference. You may also have multiple attendants. If you have sisters, for instance, and want them both to be in your wedding party, they can both be maids or matrons. Should you just want to have bridesmaids at the alter with you, that is completely acceptable as well — you don’t necessarily have to have a maid or matron.
