Although they didn’t know it when they became Facebook friends, Emily Fisher and Matthew Schultz have a lot in common. After a few years of seeing each other on social media, they first met at a Texas Rangers Game—both one of Emily and Matthew’s favorite teams—and spent the following month getting to know each other. They made their relationship official while at a football game for their alma mater, Texas Tech, and have been inseparable ever since. After three years and eight months of dating, Matt wanted to ask Emily to marry him, and decided to include their favorite sports teams in the proposal.
Emily describes the proposal as “pure perfection.” Matt incorporated many of the couple’s favorite things, most importantly—Texas Tech, the place where they started officially dating. The day started out with a trip to the Bell Tower (where the Texas Tech Victory Bells reside). When they reached the top, there were rose petals scattered around, plus a box filled with mementos from their relationship—Rangers game tickets, photos from vacations, and souvenirs from Tech games. After Emily read a heartfelt note that was in the box, Matt knelt on one knee as asked her to be his wife. As they left the tower as an engaged couple, the victory bells began to ring.
The couple plans tie the knot in a traditional ceremony at Highland Park United Methodist Church on December 13, followed by a reception in the Sky Lobby at the Dallas Petroleum Club.
