Ask the Expert: Hair Tricks to Beat the Summer Heat

blainesThanks to Blaine David Schlaudt,  owner and stylist at Blaine’s Dallas, for answering this week’s reader question:

Outdoor weddings in Texas can be very challenging with the heat and humidity. If you want tousled curls in your updo, use a slightly smaller curling iron as the curls will sag and droop during the ceremony. If you are styling the hair in an updo, the curl will hold better if the hair is not freshly cleansed. Second day hair is best for updos. Lightly back comb with a small boar brush. This will give you volume without damaging the hair. Start with a light hold spray, then finish the style with a stronger spray. Interlocking the bob pins (think of making an X with them) will help them stay in place. Keeping the hair close to the head without a ton of volume will also guarantee it won’t fall. You can also leave the bang section out until the updo is finished and then pin it back in a swooping look to hold the style in place.

Stay tuned for upcoming news about Blaine’s new beauty salon opening in Uptown in early August. The salon is a one stop shop for every beauty service you can imagine (hair, Botox, and tanning for starters).
