Maxx and April’s proposal while visiting New York City was a homecoming of sorts. “My dad is from there and it always feels like home,” says April. As the couple walked back to their hotel, Maxx got down on one knee and popped the question in the middle of Times Square. The crowd cheered “Say yes!” And of course, she did.
The couple may have shared their proposal with the masses in Manhattan, but their wedding day guest list included only 24 of their immediate family members. “We were surrounded with love and I really enjoyed being able to spend quality time with each person,” April explained.
They said their vows in the Poetry Garden at the Dallas Arboretum on Saturday, June 4, 2016, which fit the “lush garden wedding” vibe April wanted. Then, it was on to dinner at Sissy’s Southern Kitchen & Bar. “I’m an old soul and everything vintage has a very special place in my heart, so I wanted to incorporate that into the wedding decor,” she says. Plus, Maxx loved the idea of serving fried chicken and biscuits at their reception. Drawing on the aesthetic, April chose lace runners, classic place settings, and vintage candlesticks to complete the look. Even her Parker reception dress choice was inspired by a vintage silhouette.
The family dined on Southern-style cuisine before dancing the night away with friends and family at The Happiest Hour. Thankfully, the threat of storms didn’t damper the mood. “There was not one drop of rain and it was the most magical day ever,” says April.
