Rachel and Joey’s relationship started at their medical practice, where they developed a friendship and soon started running into each other outside of the office. They both knew that they had found the person they would one day marry. Joey, knowing of Rachel’s meticulous planning tendencies, knew he had to work hard to surprise her with a proposal. He had a friend convince Rachel to throw Joey a surprise birthday party, which actually turned out to be her own surprise engagement.
For their November 7 nuptials at Riviera Maya, Mexico’s El Dorado Royale resort, Rachel and Joey decided on a theme of “pure glamour.” Though they married at a tropical locale, they didn’t want a typical beach wedding—instead, Rachel and Joey wanted “an upscale Dallas wedding but in the atmosphere of the beach, with only our closest family and friends.”
One of the most special moments of the day for Rachel and Joey was incorporating their love letters into the ceremony. They put these letters in a wine box, which also contained a bottle of wine, to reveal years into their marriage. Describing the good qualities they find in one another, the reasons they fell in love, and the reasons they chose to marry, the letters are not meant to be seen by one another. Should their marriage face any hardships, the idea was that the couple should open the box, sit and drink the wine, and read the letters—all to be reminded of the reasons they started a life together. The hope for the box was that there would not be a reason to open it and that they could share and enjoy it for their five year anniversary.
