A summer school course at Texas Christian University brought Emma and Tony together for the first time. The two started dating the following year, and Emma says her friends predicted their lifelong romance from the beginning. For Emma’s “birthday week” that December, Tony disguised his proposal plans with several days of special surprises. On the last day, the two went ice-skating before getting dolled up for dinner in Fort Worth. A horse and carriage was waiting outside the restaurant and headed to Sundance Square, where Emma found a love note and roses waiting on their favorite bench. After Tony popped the question, the overjoyed couple rode the carriage to a nearby bar to celebrate with family and friends.
Emma made sure to keep her deep connection with Tony at the heart of their wedding day on October 3, 2015, cherishing time together in the midst of wedding day chaos. The couple chose to do a first look rather than see each other for the first time in front of hundreds of guests. “We were giddy– our photographers really captured how special that moment was for us, and the pictures are some of our favorites,” said Emma. They also exchanged gifts during their first look—a Bible for Emma inscribed with her new name and a sweet note from Tony inside, and a surprise engraving inside Tony’s ring from Emma. Additionally, during the ceremony, the two chose to step away for a moment and pray and take communion for the first time together as husband and wife.
The wedding’s aesthetic was inspired by one of Emma’s favorite films, Pride and Prejudice. The soft, feminine grey-blues and delicate pinks complemented the romantic feel of the venue, Arlington Hall. Dreamy, classic white and green florals, including a standout arch installation, also echoed the traditional mood. But the wedding’s old-fashioned feel is most apparent in the story behind Emma’s halo-style ring. The hundred-year-old heirloom belonged to her great-grandmother Emma (who is her namesake). While the two never met, Emma says that the ring is incredibly significant to her and her family, and that she will someday pass it on too.
