Anyone who has ever been in school knows that group projects are rarely a dream. But for Ashley and Gabe, one positive did come out of theirs at SMU: each other. Both in the BBA Scholar program in the Cox School of Business, Gabe and Ashley ended up in plenty of classes together and were assigned to the same group project. One day, Gabe asked Ashley out to lunch and the rest, as they say, was history.
Ashley competitively ice-skated as a child, and she and Gabe enjoyed ice skating together. One rainy March day, the couple went to meet Ashley’s parents for a day of shopping at the Galleria. Ashley’s parents were supposedly meeting friends for lunch first, so Gabe and Ashley decided to ice skate for a while before meeting up with them. While skating, Gabe pretended to do a spin on the ice and fell down. When Ashley offered her hand to get him back on his feet, Gabe began to stand up but paused on one knee. He pulled the ring box out of his jacket and proposed—Ashley joyfully said yes, and the applause echoed through the rink.
Both Ashley and Gabe attended Southern Methodist University. Ashley studied marketing and political science and works for a private wealth management firm. Gabe studied finance and is the founder of business management software provider Flicent. They will marry on October 1, 2016, at the Ritz-Carlton Dallas.
